FAQ

How much does a class cost?

Class pricing varies by location and venue.
Use the drop-down menu on our booking page to find a class near you and view current ticket prices.

What do I need to bring to class?

Nothing at all. We provide everything you’ll need during class — including the food, supplies, and tools.

We’ll even email you a cheat sheet of notes afterward, so there’s no need to bring a notebook.

Also… please don’t bring your own knife to class.
(Yes, this has actually happened.)

Do I need any experience?

Not even a little.

Most of our students are complete beginners who have never made sushi before in their lives. We designed the class to be fun, relaxed, and easy to follow.

If you can roll a burrito, you can roll sushi.

Is there an age limit?

We don’t like strict age limits. Our rule is simple:

If you can attend class without disrupting the experience for everyone else, you’re welcome.

That applies equally to children and overly enthusiastic adults enjoying brewery beverages.

Disruptive guests may be asked to leave.

What if I have a food allergy?

No problem — just email us the day before class so we can shop and prepare accordingly.

We do our best to accommodate allergies whenever possible, but please understand that ingredients are prepared in shared kitchens and environments.

Should we eat before class?

At the beginning of class, you’ll enjoy a snack prepared by the chef.
Toward the end of class, you’ll make your own sushi roll to eat.

Most students leave happy and full — but if you’re a big eater, grabbing a small snack beforehand isn’t a bad idea.

One request: please don’t order delivery food during class.
(Yes… this has happened too. More than once.)

Can I come alone?

Absolutely.

A lot of people come solo and end up making new friends during class. The atmosphere is very social, relaxed, and beginner-friendly.

You definitely won’t be the only one.

Can we sit together?

We do our best to seat groups together whenever possible.

If you purchased tickets separately, send us an email ahead of time so we can try to arrange seating before class begins.

How long is the class?

Most classes last about 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on the venue and class size.

We recommend arriving a little early so you can grab a drink, get settled in, and relax before we begin.

Can underage guests attend brewery classes?

Yes! Underage guests are welcome at most brewery locations as long as they follow the venue’s rules and do not attempt to purchase alcohol.

The brewery is dog-friendly. Can I bring my dog?

We love dogs. Truly.

But sushi class is still a food event, so pets need to stay home.

Over the years we’ve had people attempt to bring dogs, a baby duck, and even a possum.

Please don’t make us add to that list.

What should I wear?

Whatever you’re comfortable in.

Just keep in mind that sushi rice has a remarkable ability to find black clothing.

Are tickets refundable?

Tickets are non-refundable, but they never expire.

If something comes up, simply email us and we’ll help you transfer your ticket to a future class.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes! Sushi classes make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, date nights, graduations, and people who already own too many things.

How do private sushi parties work?

We offer several private party options including:

  • Sushi dinner parties (chef-prepared meal only)
  • Hands-on sushi rolling parties
  • Sushi + hibachi parties (with a Blackstone or similar griddle)

For more information, click here for private party options or email us directly at alabamasushi@gmail.com to discuss availability.

Important: Purchasing a class online does not guarantee your preferred private party date.

Can you provide a sushi chef for our vacation or beach trip?

Absolutely.

We currently offer sushi chefs for private parties and bachelorette events in:

  • Mobile & Dauphin Island, Alabama
  • Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, Alabama
  • Pensacola, Florida
  • Charleston & Beaufort, South Carolina

We also travel throughout the southeastern United States for private events, with travel fees applying depending on location.

Can you teach private corporate or team-building events?

Definitely.

We’ve taught classes for universities, office teams, sororities, corporate groups, birthday parties, bachelor/bachelorette parties, country clubs, and private events of all sizes.

If your group likes food and having fun, we can probably make it work.
